Yamaha YZF R15 V3 Review

Yamaha’s R15 version 3 is a liquid-cooled, engine-powered, 155 cc, sports bike that offers excellent value for money. This model has six speed transmission, looks quite sharp and is equipped with modern technologies, some of which you may not find in older versions of the R15. The version 3.0 of the R15 has a revamped look, especially when you compare it to previous iterations. The bike’s front body is inspired from Yamaha’s R1 and R6 bikes. The R15 has LED headlamps and the central air duct gives the bike a unique, aggressive look.

The manufacturer also made massive changes to this bikes fuel tank, as it looks quite muscular compared to the last version. Many bike enthusiasts believe that the fuel tank’s look is loosely inspired from the R series motorcycles. Yamaha YZF R15 comes with an instrument cluster inspired from the R1. This cluster is all digital and comes with a gearshift assist light. There is also a USB charging port but it is an optional feature, similar to the Daytona exhaust kit and the rear Metzeler tyre. This bike is sportier and sharper than previous models and offers better overall comfort.

The cushioning is quite comfy and spacious, offering more room for pillion riders. The R15 version 3 from Yamaha is a bit similar to version 2 in the sense that it is based on a perimeter frame known as the Daltabox. However, the wheelbase of the version 3 is cut down by 20mm sharper turns and improved agility. Riders will also notice small changes in several other dimensions. That said, the bike overall size remains unchanged. With a 170 mm ground clearance, the Yamaha R15 version 3 is about 10 mm higher compared to the last generation. The new version also has an increased seat height of 815 mm. 

One of the most noteworthy changes of the R15 comes in the form of the premium inverted forks. However, in some countries, like India, they are replaced by the traditional telescoping front, along with link type rear mono shock. The 3.0 version of the R15 has a new engine (155cc). This engine makes use of a variable valve actuation system. Yamaha has used this type of technology for the first time, ensuring the bikes compression ratio is high and riders can operate the motor at faster speeds.

The R15 version 3s suspension is slightly stiff, just like the previous models. This is perfect when riding on the track. However, the stiff engine may cause slight difficulties on the actual road. Yamaha revised this model’s geometry quite a lot, making it sharper and nimbler than before. This means riders can turn the bike quickly, something that was slightly challenging with the 2.0 version. The tires of this bike are also wider than before, offering riders fantastic grip at high and low speeds.

The Yamaha YZF R15 v3 fuel injection is precise, offering an excellent response whenever required. The manufacturer has also made massive improvements to the engine refinement systems while ensuring vibrations are kept to a minimum. That said, riders may notice slight vibrations from time to time, so there is some room for improvement. Overall, this bike is a massive improvement to the previous versions of the R15 and offers excellent value for money.
